A box car is a railroad car that is enclosed and generally used to carry general freight. The box car, while not the simplest freight car design, is probably the most versatile, since it can carry most loads. The all-door boxcar looked like a common boxcar, but the sides of the car consisted of four large doors that could be passed over one another, giving the loader or unloader access to the entire length of the car. These cars were used to haul lumber across the US.
