This is a Walthers 920-11900 HO Scale 85′ Budd 1 Drawing Room 29-Seat Lounge – Standard – Ready to Run Railcar Restoration & Charter (Partial Weathering, Unlettered) The average passenger car worked pretty hard over the course of its lifetime. Being started and stopped repeatedly, along with constant exposure to weather, and the normal wear and tear of everyday use all took a toll, despite the durable steel construction. As railroads began slashing passenger service, they quickly cut back on repairs, simply retiring cars that were no longer in good shape. But as historic preservation caught on in the 1950s, private individuals began buying up older cars with an eye towards saving them for future generations. Many were determined to get them back up and running, a daunting task that typically required removing, rebuilding, and replacing virtually every piece – heavy, dirty work that made having a well-equipped shop a must. Over time, what started out as a labor of love evolved into a business, as the shops began taking on restoration and rebuilding projects for others. To help pay the bills and keep their classic cars rolling, many began running charter services, providing cars for fantrips, business excursions and more. This complete series makes it easy to model a typical operation — and an ideal way to add a variety of historic passenger equipment to your modern railroad! The series includes the Cornerstone Rail Car Restoration and Charter (#933-4024) shop building kit designed for easy construction with loads of details and custom signs. Setting the scene is easy with three HO scale WalthersProto cars made especially for the series. A special version of the Budd 1 Drawing Room, 29-Seat Lounge (#920-11900) features a real metal finish to simulate stainless steel, but is partially cleaned and partially tarnished to simulate a car undergoing restoration. Finished in a custom purple and silver scheme, the Railcar Charter Service 85′ Pullman-Standard Club Lounge (#920-11902 Lighted or #920-11901 Non-lighted), and Charter Service 85′ 6-4-1 Observation Lounge (#920-11902 Lighted or #920-12902 Non-Lighted) are typical of restored cars, available for tours and fan trips over any railroad, including yours! * Depicts Budd Car Undergoing Restoration * Real Metal Finish with Tarnished & Refinished Halves * Factory-Installed Grab Irons * Correct 36 Turned Metal Wheelsets * Proto MAX(TM) Metal Knuckle Couplers PLEASE NOTE: As these cars are the correct prototype length and feature full underbody detail to match the prototypes, a minimum 24 radius is recommended for operation.
