This is MTH 20-97798 O BNSF 3-Bay Centerflow Hopper. BNSF (Great Northern), car numbers: 477432, 489368. By the 1980s, ACF’s Centerflow, along with covered grain hoppers from other builders, had spelled the end of the 40′ box car in grain service. In addition to grain, Centerflows found work hauling a variety of other light to medium-density dry commodities, including salt, clay, chemicals, phosphates and other minerals.
The prototype for our Premier model, the 100-ton capacity, 4,650 cubic foot, three-bay Centerflow, was introduced in 1964. In all, over 100,000 Centerflows of various sizes have been built to date, and an upgraded version of the 4650 cu. ft. car remains in production today, as the 4650C model available from American Railcar Leasing.
